New Delhi: The next phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive for people above 60 years and those aged 45 and above with comorbidities will begin from 1 March and registration on the Co-WIN 2.0 portal will open at 9 am on Monday. COVID-19: Maharashtra's Hingoli imposes curfew from 1 to 7 March after district reports spurt in daily cases

Aurangabad: In the wake of a rise in daily COVID-19 cases in Hingoli, the local administration has decided to impose curfew in the district from 1 to 7 March. A total of 46 new COVID-19 cases were found on Saturday in Hingoli, located in the state's Marathwada region, raising its tally to 4,083, as per official figures. Hingoli Collector Ruchesh Jayvanshi in an order issued on Saturday evening said the curfew will come into force from 7 am on Monday and continue till March 7 midnight. Schools, colleges, religious places and function halls shall remain closed during the period, while banks will operate only for administrative work, said the order. Bank officials are instructed to carry their identity cards while travelling to their workplace, it said. Milk shops will be allowed to operate from 9 am to 5 pm. India records 16,752 COVID-19 cases in past 24 hours; biggest single-day jump in 30 days

New Delhi: India's COVID-19 tally climbed to 1,10,96,731 on Sunday with 16,752 new infections, the highest in the last 30 days, according to Union health ministry data. The death toll mounted to 1,57,051 with 113 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed. The country had recorded 18,855 new infections on 29 January. The active caseload further increased to 1,64,511. It constitutes 1.48 percent of the total infections, the data stated. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 1,07,75,169, which translates to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 97.10 percent. The case fatality rate stands at 1.42 percent. India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. Odisha makes week-long home isolation mandatory for people coming from five 'high-risk' states

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Saturday said that a week-long home isolation will be mandatory for people coming to the state by plane or train from five high-risk states, modifying its previous order of imposing the precautionary measures to those arriving from 12 states. The five high-risk states are Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, PK Mohapatra said. In a partial modification to the instructions issued on Friday to district authorities and others, Mohapatra clarified that at present the measure may be limited to passengers coming from five high-risk states instead of 12 states named earlier. GATE 2021: Answer keys, question papers for aptitude test released at gate.iitb.ac.in

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has released the answer keys and question papers of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2021). Students who have appeared in the exam can download the provisional answer key from the official site — gate.iitb.ac.in. IIT Bombay will allow candidates to raise objections against the answer keys from 2 to 4 March, however, they will be required to submit a detailed description and proof in support of their claim. Fire breaks out at factory in Delhi's Pratap Nagar area; one dead

New Delhi:  A charred body was recovered after a fire broke out at a factory in North Delhi's Pratap Nagar area in the early hours of Saturday, a Delhi Fire Service official said. One of the firemen suffered minor injury on his finger during the fire-fighting operation but was given first aid at the spot, the official said. A call about the blaze was received at around 3.47 am and 18 fire tenders were pressed into service, he said. Later, 10 more fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the flames were doused while the cooling process is under way, he added. The fire broke out on the first floor of the factory and spread to the second floor. Plastic and nail polish materials stored in the factory caught fire and a charred body was recovered from the first floor, said Atul Garg, Director, Delhi Fire Service. The Reserve bank of India (RBI) Grade B Officer Admit Card 2021 is out. The hall tickets are released for the recruitment examination of the officers in grade 'B' General, Department of Economic and Policy Research (DEPR) and Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM). India records over 16,000 COVID-19 cases for third straight day; 113 new deaths push toll up to 1,56,938

New Delhi: India registered a single-day spike of over 16,000 COVID-19 cases for the third day in a row on Saturday, pushing the infection tally to 1,10,79,979, said the Union health ministry on Saturday. A total of 16,488 novel coronavirus cases were reported in a day, while the toll increased to 1,56,938 with 113 new fatalities, showed the data updated at 8 am on Saturday. The active case count has further increased to 1,59,590, which comprises 1.44 percent of the total infections, the data stated. The number of recoveries reached 1,07,63,451, taking the national COVID-19 recovery rate to 97.14 percent and the case fatality rate stands at 1.42 percent. New Delhi: Everyone on election duty for the upcoming polls for five Assemblies will be vaccinated against COVID-19 before polling day, the Election Commission said on Friday. Voting will take place for 126 seats in Assam, 234 in Tamil Nadu, 294 in West Bengal, 140 in Kerala and 30 in Puducherry. Nearly 18.68 crore electors will be eligible to vote at 2.7 lakh polling stations for 824 seats in five Assembly elections, Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora said at a press conference in Delhi. Arrangements will be put in place for candidates to file their nominations online for the five Assembly polls. Voting will be allowed for an additional hour, keeping in mind COVID-19 safety guidelines, he said. DGCA extends suspension of international passenger flights till 31 March

Mumbai: Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday extended the suspension of international commercial passenger flight services till 31 March. Scheduled international flight operations were suspended from 23 March last year in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country. "In partial modification of circular dated 26 June, 2020, the competent authority has further extended the validity regarding scheduled international commercial passenger services to and from India till 23.59 pm IST of 31 March, 2021," the DGCA said in a circular. However, international scheduled flights may be allowed on select routes by the competent authority on case-to-case basis, it said. The restriction will not apply to cargo flights and flights specifically approved by DGCA, the circular added. India rescues 81 Rohingya refugees adrift near Andaman islands; eight dead, one missing

New Delhi: India's coast guard has found a boat adrift in the Andaman Sea carrying scores of Rohingya refugees, including eight who had died, officials said Thursday. The boat left Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh on 11 February with 90 people, including 23 children, on board and its engine failed on 15 February, Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesman Anurag Srivastava said. He said the coast guard found 81 people alive on the boat and provided them with food, water and medical care. One refugee was missing, he said. Two Indian coast guard ships were sent to help the refugees, and the Indian government is in discussions with Bangladesh to ensure their safe return, Srivastava said. Sensex tanks over 1,000 points in opening trade; Nifty slips below 14,900

Mumbai : Equity benchmark Sensex tanked over 1,000 points in the opening session on Friday tracking losses in index majors ICICI Bank, HDFC twins and Reliance Industries amid a negative trend in global markets. After touching a low of 49,950.75, the 30-share BSE index was trading 927.21 points or 1.82 percent lower at 50,112.10. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty was quoting 270.40 points or 1.79 percent down at 14,826.95. IndusInd Bank was the top loser in the Sensex pack, shedding around 3 per cent, followed by ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, HDFC, M&M, SBI, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries and Tech Mahindra.
