Six people, including two children, lost their lives due to electrocution in Tripura’s Unakoti district after a Lord Jagannath chariot came in contact with a high-tension wire. ED arrests Supertech owner RK Arora over money laundering case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested real estate company Supertech’s owner and chairman RK Arora over money laundering cases in New Delhi on Tuesday. Arora will most likely be produced before a special court on Wednesday. He was taken into custody under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), following a third round of his questioning at the federal agency’s office here, officials said. Buyers from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have filed over 20 FIRs against Arora. In April, the ED had attached assets worth more than Rs 40 crore of the real estate group and its directors. According to the complaints filed by the buyers, Arora and his company had indulged in “criminal conspiracy” to cheat them by collecting funds in the name of advance bookings for Supertech flats. Maharashtra: Two-wheelers claimed 7700 lives in accidents in 2022; no use of helmet main reason

Out of the roughly 15,000 road accident fatalities registered in Maharashtra in 2022, 7,700 were of two-wheeler riders, with most of these deaths occurring due to head injuries from not wearing helmets, an official said. These figures were shared in a circular issued last week by the state transport commissioner. In view of this situation, the state transport department has directed its staff to launch a state-wide campaign to counsel two-wheeler users to make them understand the importance of road safety and the legal provisions related to it, an official said. As per the official statistics revealed earlier this year, a total of 14,883 people were killed in road accidents in the state in 2022, an increase of 2,095 compared to 12,788 fatalities recorded in the pre-COVID-19 year of 2019. Just a day after Indian budget carrier IndiGo inked a historic deal with Airbus, Air India on Tuesday signed an agreement with both Airbus and Boeing for acquiring as many as 470 planes for an estimated USD 70 billion at list prices. In February, the Tata Group-owned airline announced the purchase of 470 aircraft, including wide-body planes. The “firm orders include 34 A350-1000, 6 A350-900, 20 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 10 Boeing 777X wide-body aircraft, as well as 140 Airbus A320neo, 70 Airbus A321neo and 190 Boeing 737MAX narrow-body aircraft,” the airline said in a release. India targets to eradicate tuberculosis by 2025 says PM Modi in 102nd episode of Mann ki Baat

India has set an aim of eliminating tuberculosis (TB) by 2025, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated in his monthly radio show ‘Mann ki Baat’ on Sunday that ‘Ni-kshay Mitra’ has assumed control of this drive. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is implementing the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (Ni-kshay Mitra Initiative). “India has set a target of eradicating TB by 2025. North India heatwave: 98 killed in UP Bihar in last three days as mercury continues to soar

At least 98 people have died in the last three days in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar as north India continues to reel under extreme heatwave, an India Today report said. 54 people have died in UP while 44 people have died in Bihar, the report added. Nearly 400 people have been admitted to a district hospital in UP’s Ballia with complaints of fever and breathlessness in the last three days. Most of patients were above 60, prompting doctors to advise the elderly stay indoors during daytime. Ballia’s Chief Medical Officer Jayant Kumar Kumar told The Associated Press that the people who died were suffering from some ailments and their conditions worsened due to the heatwave. Most of the deaths were because of heart attack, brain stroke and diarrhea, he added.
