Union Budget 2021: Part one of Session to conclude two days early on 13 February

New Delhi: The first part of the Budget Session of Parliament is likely to end on 13 February instead of 15 February, sources said on Friday, underling that the total number of working days would however remain the same.

The matter was discussed in the Business Advisory Committee of Lok Sabha where leaders of various parties were unanimous to end part one of the session on 13 February.

As per earlier schedule, the session was to go on a recess after meeting on 15 February, a Monday. Now, at least Lok Sabha would meet on 13 February, a Saturday, before being adjourned to meet again on 8 March.

This would mean that the number of working days would remain.

In the Monsoon Session of Parliament, the two Houses had met on Saturdays and Sundays. But this time, the usual weekend breaks have returned.

The Budget Session is scheduled to end on 8 April.

The Business Advisory Committee of Lok Sabha also decided to allocate 10 hours for the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address to the joint sitting of Parliament delivered on Friday, the first day of the session.

The debate would take place on 2, 3 and 4 February and Prime Minister Narendra Modi would reply to it on 5 February, the sources said.

At the all-party meeting convened by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla later, opposition members demanded a debate on the issues raised by farmers protesting on various Delhi border points.

The government suggested that the issues can be raised during the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address.

The Speaker urged party leaders to cooperate in the smooth functioning of the House, saying he would try to give every member a chance to speak.

India plans to import next batch of cheetahs from Northern Africa

India is considering importing cheetahs from northern Africa due to concerns that some of these big cats from Namibia and South Africa have developed a winter coat in Indian summer, officials said on Wednesday. According to officials, one of the biggest challenges faced in the first year of managing cheetahs in India was the unexpected development of winter coats by some cheetahs during the Indian summer and monsoon, in anticipation of the African winter (June to September). Even African experts did not expect it, a senior forest official said. The winter coat, combined with high humidity and temperatures, caused itching, prompting the animals to scratch their necks on tree trunks or the ground. This led to bruises and exposed skin, where flies laid their eggs, resulting in maggot infestations and, ultimately, bacterial infections and septicaemia, leading to the death of three cheetahs, the official explained. “Cheetahs in northern and north-eastern Africa, which is in the northern...
