Congress leader Naseem Khan writes to PM Modi, urges him to suspend bilateral trade with Israel

Amid Israel-Hamas war, former Maharashtra minister and senior Congress leader Naseem Khan has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to stand with Palestine from a humanitarian point of view and demanded that India should immediately stop all bilateral trade with Israel.

Deeply disturbed by the deaths of innocent citizens in the Gaza Strip, in a two-page letter, Khan said, “Indian government should immediately condemn inhuman bombarding on Gaza (Plaestine) which is killing thousands of innocent people and making them homeless.”

“Right from Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi, Atal Bihari Vajpayee to Dr Manmohan Singh, the Indian government has had very good relationship with the Palestinian leadership and people of Palestine and we have always stood with them in the hours of need on humanitarian ground,” he added.

He further said that India should immediately stop all bilateral trade with Israel to support sentiments of peace loving people of India as a protest against the oppression done by Israel.

“Until and unless the Israel government does not stop this inhuman and cruel act, the Government of India should immediately stop all bilateral trade with Israel to support the sentiments of peace loving people of India,” he added.

Talking about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, he said that the United Nations too has expressed concern over the shortage of food, medicines and relief material in Gaza Strip. “India needs to help them at this time of crisis considering our historic relationship,” he said.

Khan’s letter comes a day after the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital bombing in Palestine, which has left several hundred people dead.

Khan said that so far the Israel-Hamas war has claimed over 3,000 lives and left over 10,000 injured.

The waste left behind by the monastery’s expanding number of tourists has also become a source of concern for Abbot Shedling Tulku Thupten Tendar Rinpoche, the monastery’s chief. The Rinpoche, who has been the head of the Tawang Monastery for a year, is pleased with the monks and learners under him, but he is concerned about other facilities accessible to them. Tawang Monastery is Asia’s second largest and oldest. It was established between 1680 and 1681. Speaking to PTI in his native Tibetan through an interpreter, Rinpoche said, “The monks of our monastery are much disciplined and concentrate on their studies. They have been following the laid-down traditions well enough. “For us, one major issue is healthcare facilities. In case of any health-related emergency, our monks have to travel to Guwahati or Tezpur. If the government can ensure simil...
